Andrew Goodwin: Music Theory

We have created a star image in which the artist communicates the lyrics to the audience, by singing along and looking into the camera; breaking the fourth wall and creating a connection that entices the viewers, making her a storyteller. The voice of the singer is unique, creating a trademark for our artist, so she is recognisable and sets her apart from other artists.

The authenticity of the performance has been created through the intimate shots and the fact when filming, our artist sung along and didn't lip sync, making the performance look credible.  As we have changed her outfits in the majority of shots, we have made the video interesting and different, meaning the audience will stay interested and possibly want to watch it a few more times, adhering to the theory of repeatability Goodwin suggested.

Illustrate:

The most illustrative clip used in the music video is the shot where Rosa-Leigh sings with her hands over the eyes, demonstrating the lyrics she is singing.

Amplify:

Nature is used constantly throughout the video, "drumming this into our vision". A vintage effect that matches the tone and subtle lyrics is also used in the video.

Disjuncture:

The lyrics of the song are slightly negative; not making a lot of sense and demonstrating the confusion of a disordered mind, however the melody and beat of the song have happy connotations that make the audience want to dance and hum/sing along. We have focused our video on the happy element of the song, completing ignoring the fact the lyrics are deeper than the happy surface of the beat. The natural shots used contrast with lyrics such as 'There's a demon on the loose' but create a carefree, lighthearted atmosphere for the video.

In post production we will edit some shots to follow the beat of the music, cutting them in time with certain drum beats, creating an interesting effect and capturing the audiences attention with a deviation from longer panning shots.
